The original event of the summer that takes place in Pinzolo, in high val Rendena (TN) . Cows come back from the summer grazing in the mountains.
The local event wants to emphasize the historical, cultural and environmental identity of the Val Rendena inhabitants and its homonym breed.
The manifestation is the representation of the old life of the Val Rendena' s farmers before the winter developement of the site as a tourist destination.
Zootechny was one of the few way to survive on this difficult mountain territory.Pinzolo is ready to celebrate the Rendena breed , the only one autochthonous bovine breed of Trentino.
This Rendena breed takes this name from the mountain territory of val Rendena, which helped to create a kind of strong , rural cow ideal for grazing.The breed was for years destroyed because of cultural and historical causes but then reinforced with imported swiss cows. The brown Rendena's cows are have a small/medium size( of 500-600 kg of weight) They produce a high quality meat and milk for cheese as the typical “Spressa DOP of Giudicarie”In Val Rendena there are 1500 cows of the same homonym breed . Lots of them go on summer grazing in the mountains.
The success of the giovenche of Rendena's breed is due to the capacity of showing all the cultural aspects of the territory . It is on the fourth edition . For more than 60 years this event was involved in the market of san Michele – on the 29th of September - The event consist also of the annual election of “the queen of Pinzolo” that is the best giovenca cow between 150 chosen by the judge. This shows how Val Rendena people has been able to carry on the Rendena breed since nowadays. Tourists appreciate this tradition and find in this event an opportunity to know the Trentino identity . In spite of the crisis of the national and european zootechnical system , people in Val Rendena wants to defend and protect its breed which is bound together with the Valley and the agricultural centres as well as the natural territorial heritage .
